Irish Wolfhounds are sweet-tempered, patient, generous, thoughtful and very intelligent. They can be trusted with children, dignified and willing, they are unconditionally loyal to their owner and family. These dogs tend to greet everyone as a friend so may not be ideal for guarding purposes.

Irish Wolfhounds are relatively easy to train, they respond well to firm, but gentle training. Due to their calm nature, they get along well with other dogs and animals, provided they are properly socialized when young. As it needs plenty of exercise, the Irish Wolfhound is not recommended for apartment living. It is a breed that needs to be part of the family and would be very unhappy in a kennel.

The Irish Wolfhound may be your ideal breed if you live in a house with a fenced garden and have children who would love a witty and amusing dog to play with.
